According to a statement delivered by the Cotos family representative, Manny Coto died on July 9, 2023, a month after his 62nd birthday. The writer, director, and producer suffered pancreatic cancer for 13 months and finally gave in to the disease. At the time of his death, he was surrounded by his loved ones at his home in Pasadena.

1. He Was a Native of Havana, Cuba

Manny Coto was one of three children born to his parents on June 10, 1961, in Havana, Cuba. According to the records, his mother Norma who was a teacher fled to Orlando, Florida during the  Fidel Castro regime and that was where Manny was raised alongside his sister, Normi Coto, and brother, Juan Carlos Coto.

At the time, his father Manuel Coto, a doctor was forced to stay back in Havana but later joined his family.

2. Manny Coto Developed Interest in Filming as a Teenager

Manny Coto was still young when his passion for acting was spurred. As a teen, he used his father’s Super8 camera to create horror movies and short clips. It was long before he decided to make a career from it.

He moved to Los Angeles in 1983 to pursue a course in arts and graduated from the American Film Institute.

3. He Joined the Entertainment Industry as a Writer

After Manny Coto graduated from the film institute, he became more interested in writing than acting. He wrote his first screenplay in 1988 for an episode of Alfred Hitchcock Present recorded success and blame the first screenplay to hit $1 million in sales.

Manny Coto and Robin Tricketh were a couple until the former died in 2023. The couple met on the set of Odyssey 5 in 2003 and after a few years, they got married. Their marriage ceremony was held in Venice, Italy on December 27, 2004.
